Notable Jewish Lives

Thursday, January 20, 2022 18 Shevat 5782

4:00 PM - 5:00 PMVia Zoom

The Adult Education Committee presents a bi-monthly series of discussions called Notable Jewish Lives. Six titles from the Yale University Press series, Jewish Lives have been selected. Each title is devoted to a different Jewish individual who has gained fame in realms as diverse as politics, religion, theater, art, etc. Each one-hour session will follow the same format: a designated discussion leader who has read the title of the famous Jewish person will tell the individual’s biography based on the book. In addition, the leader may present other materials like photos, etc., and may have consulted other sources to get a balanced overview of the individual’s life. The first event will discuss Barbra Streisand. Fran Saltzman will be the presenter. The discussion is based on Neal Gabler’s Barbra Streisand: Redefining Beauty, Femininity, and Power, published in 2016. The Adult Education Committee has a circulating copy of the book; if you would like to be on the list to borrow it, please contact Enid Zafran. The title is available from Amazon in both Kindle and print formats; however, you are not required to read the book to attend.
