November 12, 2024 - HAFTARAH FOR YOM KIPPUR AFTERNOON  PART II - JONAH 3:1-4:11; MICAH 7; 18-20 -ETZ HAYIM p.1249.

Has Jonah learned his lesson?  Has he shown any progress?   What does the book have to say further about repentance and    introspection? Why does the book end with a rhetorical question?  What do the additional lines from Micah add?

Classes are held on the second TUESDAY of each month at 4:00 pm via Zoom. No knowledge of Hebrew or Jewish texts is required. Everyone is welcome, regardless of background or level of knowledge.

Each class is devoted to the study of a specific Haftarah. Themes considered include the historical background  and character of the Prophet who authored the Haftarah ; the historical context of the Haftorah; the structure and theme of the Haftarah; how the Haftarah relates to the holiday or Torah portion with which that Haftarah is associated; and what other portions of the Tanach , Jewish classics, or outside literary sources might illuminate that Haftarah.
