HAFTARAH FOR KI TETZEI AND NOACH -Isaiah 54:1-55.5- “Etz Hayim “ P. 65.
After Isaiah’s admonition, we can use a little consolation, so we shall end the class year with exactly that. The first ten lines of this Haftarah comprise the Fifth of the Seven Haftarot of Consolation, all by a second prophet named Isaiah who lived several centuries later and who shares the same book with the earlier Isaiah. That segment of the Haftarah is expanded to include a dozen additional lines for the Haftarah accompanying the familiar story of Noah and the Ark.
What is the Second Isaiah’s message ? What metaphors and rhetorical devices does Isaiah use ? What relationship is there between a prophetic message dealing with a much later historical event (the end of the Babylonian captivity) to one of the earliest events detailed in the whole Tenach, the story of Noah?
