The class will study the Haftarah which is read on the closest Shabbat following the class. This year’s class will follow the general format of prior years’ classes. The class involves detailed discussion and textual analysis of each of the Haftarot described in English but with occasional reference to the Hebrew .
March 12, 2024- HAFTARAH - FOR P’ KUDEI - 1 KINGS 7:51-8:21, Etz Hayim p. 579. How do the events of this Haftarah formally bring a close to a long period beginning with the wilderness wandering? What status is now accorded to Jerusalem, the City of David? How is King Solomon presented as the legitimate successor of David and Moses? How does this Haftarah elaborate on the concept of sacred space?
