5:00 PM - 6:00 PMVia ZoomBook Group - Interview with author Jonathan Stone on his book The Prison Minyan.
The Prison Minyan is a comic novel of moral issues set in modern times in
Otisville, a minimum-security correctional facility in upstate New York that
white-collar Jewish offenders considered the penitentiary of choice because it
offers Kosher meals. In their minyan group lead by a convicted rabbi, they
pray and discuss the Talmud. A new prisoner arrives, a celebrity convict who
has upset the 45th president, and their religious privileges are suspended in
a crackdown. The prisoners have to ask themselves about decency and the
right to fight back. The book offers an easy read that makes one want to find
out what happens. Yet, it is thought-provoking at the same time. Seaside
member Susan Towers will moderate the discussion.
