Dvora Treisman will speak about her father's life story that she told in her book:

Stories My Father Told Me: From Warsaw, Moscow, Algeria, Siberia, Kazakhstan, Dominican Republic.  

 

Such an unusual story!  Dvora's father, born in Warsaw, as you can tell by the title traveled a lot, and to some remote places.  He spoke five languages but preferred to swear in Russian. Throughout WWII, he lived in the Soviet Union -- he refused to renounce his Polish citizenship so the Soviets sent him and his wife to Siberia.  When they are finally released from exile, they go to Kazakhstan.  Maintaining his Jewish identity throughout, he survived through his quick intelligence and energetic personality.  Yet, for all his achievements, he resists any notion of heroism. The original diary of her father is in the YIVO collection as it presents a little known look at life of Jews captive in the Soviet Union while the rest of Europe is under Nazi control.
