Details about the Capital Campaign

Q. What is a "Peace Tile"?
A. Ceramic artist Susan Gladstone is handcrafting ceramic tiles to fill an unfinished section of wall next to the new main entrance to Seaside. Susan is donating her materials and expertise, but the wall will require professional installation. We are seeking sponsors for $18 a tile, (5 tiles for $90; 10 tiles for $180) to help defray this cost.

Q. What is the Capital Campaign?
A. Seaside has launched a capital fundraising campaign, "Building Our Future," to enable us to more than double the size of our existing home on Holland Glade Road. In the past two decades, SJC has grown from a handful of founders to become a valued center for spiritual, educational, and social programs for over 300 families, with projections for continued significant growth. The official launch of this fundraising effort was summer 2018, when members had an opportunity to view and comment on preliminary plans for the design of the expanded building.
Q. How much is it going to cost?
A. The cost of the expansion project was estimated to be $1.25 million. This more than doubled the size of the building, added an elevator and handicapped restrooms, security features, and more. Since we broke ground early in 2020, we've included additional security items, streaming equipment, and items in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding from all sources is close to $1.1 million. This includes $712,000 in Capital Campaign gifts and pledges, $121,600 in grants (primarily from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security through the Delaware Emergency Management Agency), and a $260,000 allocation from Seaside's reserve funds. It is not too late to make a gift that will reduce and/or help us retire a mortgage.
Q. How can I contribute?
A. Capital Campaign packets were mailed to members. This is your opportunity to become an architect of SJC's future. The campaign committee includes Marilyn Feldman as chair, Mat Ash, Marsha Davis, David Herschler, Jeff Rosen, and Miriam Zadek. If you have questions, please contact Marilyn at 301-343-2706 or feldmanz@verizon.net.
