SJC is about community. The many responsibilities we have as Jews include ones of Tzedakah (Love, Charity), Gemilut Hasadim (Acts of Loving-kindness), Bikkur Holim (Visiting the Sick), Hakhnasat Orhim (Hospitality), and Nihum Avelim (Comforting the Mourners). We also have a responsibility to be part of the Sussex County Community as a whole.
To do this we set up groups that visit the sick in the local Nursing Homes and Hospitals. Ones who are homebound can also ask for visitors. We are active in keeping our community clean by sponsoring Holland Glade Road. We attempt to gather minyans for the bereaved to comfort them.
During times of crisis we have stepped up in the community and have participated in local prayer meetings and rallies. We have developed a great relationship with the local Christian community as well.
Seaside members helped found "The Coalition for Tolerance and Justice." This is a local multi-cultural and multi-religious group whose mission is to educate people in the county about the differences between us all, helping to make Sussex County a place for diversity and kinship.
